Lagom (pronounced LAW-gom) is a Swedish word meaning "just the right amount" or "not too much, not too little".

At Lagom K9, we hold steadfast to our beliefs, shaping every aspect of our approach to dog training.

We believe all dogs and their humans are capable of learning with "just the right amount" of hard work, discipline and consistency.

We believe in the human-dog bond and achieve success through teamwork.

We believe prioritizing a balanced relationship fosters a harmonious one.

We believe fulfilling your dog's needs will fulfill yours.

And above all, we believe in the power of fun. Training should be enjoyable for both dogs and humans alike. After all, if you're not having fun, what's the point?

Our Training Plans

We offer customizable services, from puppy development to behavior modification with training plans built around you, your lifestyle and your goals. We offer unmatched communication and commitment to your success, and we expect the same level of dedication in return. We help you build confidence as a handler and work with you to cultivate a strong working relationship with your dog. Our one-on-one coaching helps you get results in the comfort of your own home and our group classes provide a supportive environment to apply those skills! We are here to help you through any behavioral and/or obedience issues you have.

Because all dogs are different, we always start with a quick phone call to ensure we are the best fit before moving to an in-person consultation.

  • Consultations are a mandatory 1.5-2hr meeting to meet you and your dog(s). We talk through and evaluate issues, set realistic goals, create a training outline, discuss pricing and plan our training schedule. All consultations will supply you with immediate management solutions until we begin training.

  • Our puppy development program is for puppies as young as 3 months and consists of 2 courses that span over a few months.

Course #1 focuses on building your value and a healthy relationship with your puppy. We address crate training, potty training, building a consistent routine and building your puppy's confidence. We'll meet in your home 4-6 times, over 6-8 weeks (depending on your progress). If need be, this course can also address proper play, biting/teething and desensitization to handling (think grooming/vet appointments).

Course #2 focuses on basic obedience and applying those skills to everyday life. We teach sit, down, up/off, proper greetings, intro to place/bed, intro to recall and leash manners. We'll meet 8 times (one-on-one) over 6-8 weeks (depending on your progress).

You will also receive 3 free Maintenance Training classes to use upon course completion.

  • For dogs 8 months and older and includes 8 private one-on-one sessions outside of the home (locations vary). We teach sit, down, up, off, stay, leave-it and/or eye contact, intro to heel and intro to recall. *Maintenance Training classes are recommended after completion to further practice skills. Behavioral issues are addressed separately.

  • Designed for dogs with undesirable behavior issues 8 months and older. This can include anything from separation anxiety to dog/human reactivity. Training plans will vary depending on issue, root cause(s) and severity. Length of time and session frequency will be determined during consultation.

  • Maintenance classes are for clients who have completed training with us and need a controlled group environment to practice their skills. Our 1-hour group classes focus on different skills, taking inspiration from the AKC's CGC program and different police K9 obedience standards. We meet at varying public locations throughout the year.

  • Currently, we offer detection work, scent work training, stay and train packages, bite work and maintenance, Canine Good Citizen (CGC) testing, confidence courses and pet adoption consulting.

Our Team

Heather and Kevin, the heart and soul of Lagom K9, bring a wealth of expertise and passion to every training session. They prioritize both the canine and human aspects of the learning journey. Their dedication to 'Training Done Just Right' is evident in every success story they create.

Heather's love for dogs began at birth. Thanks to her mom's devotion to training, Heather spent her childhood watching their Schutzhund titled German Shepherds train and compete. Heather has worked with dogs in one way or another for decades and has always believed that all dogs are capable of learning! She prides herself on understanding dog behavior and is constantly evolving her own skills. Heather and her Dutch Shepherd, Nyx, are growing their career as a contraband detection team and will be expanding their detection fleet this year to meet those demands.

Kevin has a love for all things working dogs! From tracking and detection, to hunting and protection, he puts in the work, rain or shine. He is fearless when it comes to decoy work and dedicates himself to the improvement of dogs. His background in the veterinary field has given him a special outlook on animal health, safety and fulfillment, which carry over into his training techniques. Kevin currently spends his time developing Lagom's newest detection trainee, Nims. With their shared drive and enthusiasm for work, they are on the path to accomplishing great things.

Join us in transforming your dog's behavior. Together, we make Lagom K9 a training experience that encourages balance for every canine.
